Logitech Squeezebox Boom

Logitech’s Squeezebox Boom is designed for music listeners interested in streaming internet-based radio and other digital tunes (MP3s etc) to any room of the house they live in.

On powering up the Squzeebox, an on-screen wizard guides you through the setup process. However, in attempting to hook up the Logitech to our DHCP ethernet network, the wizard failed to automatically determine our network’s gateway IP address though it did successful assign itself an IP. This being the case, we could access content stored on other machines on the network but not internet-based radio stations (until we manually entered our gateway’s IP address).

Once up and running, the Logitech is a breeze to interact with; the interface has a natural feel and works just the way you'd expect it to. As a result, there's a minimal learning curve here and the remote makes things easier still. In terms of playback, the Squeezebox Boom offers punchy output that has an almost surprising amount of bass, given the system’s compact size.

Clarity is razor sharp up to 85% volume after which point a slight bit of distortion and crackling can be heard (depending on the song). Going the wireless route, the built-in 802.11g adapter has good range though being ‘g’ standard hardware, it couldn’t connect to our access point when we moved two rooms away from it.
